Simple Programmer helped me create my blog.

Last July,  I came across John Sonmez’s free blogging course.  I signed up, received the first email, but never opened it.  Why? Because …

“I’m not ready yet.”

“I don’t know what to talk about.”

“I’m not good at writing.”

“I have no idea where to start.”

And the list just goes on and on.

It turns out that John’s course had the answers to my questions and I am glad I followed through with it,  the second time around. I signed up again last December and  the course guided me on everything.  From choosing a theme, setting up a word press site, coming up with post ideas, being consistent, and driving traffic to the blog. I am now at lesson 5 of 6 and John follows up with me every week as I go through the process.

Now that I finally have a blog, the next hurdle for me is trying to be consistent. I have to admit: Writing a post every week is hard.  I still struggle with the thought that “I’m not good at writing”.  John touches on this in the course too.  He points out that consistency over time will improve your writing and communication skills in general. The more you write, the better you get at it. Another video that inspired me is ,  “How to Be a Writing God”. One piece of advice the speaker gave was,  “Write like crap if you have to, but write every day.”

On a positive note,  I  like the feeling of accomplishment  every time I click the publish button.  I also noticed that I come up with more ideas for a post more frequently now.

If you are reading this post and you are on the same boat as I was before, give John’s course a try.  Who knows,  this might be the thing that will help you get over the hurdle.
